At We Care CBO, we understand the critical importance of safeguarding children against harm and violence, which can hinder their development and exploitation. Whether it’s physical, mental, emotional or sexual, children can face harm from various sources, including strangers, teachers, peers or even their own guardians.
Such forms of violence and exploitation can disrupt a child’s growth and occur in environments where they should feel safest – their homes, schools and online spaces. Harmful cultural practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation further endanger children, particularly girls, despite being internationally condemned human rights violations.
Every child deserves protection from violence, exploitation and abuse, ensuring their physical, mental and psychosocial well-being for a brighter future.
Research underscores that prolonged exposure to adverse childhood experiences can induce toxic stress, hindering healthy development and perpetuating cycles of violence into adulthood.
Our Approach
We Care CBO’s Child Protection program is dedicated to raising awareness about child rights and education’s significance through seminars and community engagement. By strengthening child protection mechanisms and mapping relevant actors, we aim to prevent, mitigate and address instances of violence and exploitation.
1. Supporting Families: We empower caregivers with the knowledge and resources to nurture their children in safe environments, emphasizing healthy interactions and socioeconomic stability to prioritize their children’s well-being.
2. Educating Communities: We educate communities on children’s protection needs and assist them in establishing and maintaining child protection committees capable of responding effectively to abuse, neglect and exploitation.
3. Empowering Children: We empower children to recognize and assert their rights to protection, encouraging them to speak out against violence. Through advocacy at local and national levels, we work to prioritize child protection in policy-making.
4. Key Areas of Focus: Our vigilant monitoring includes identifying and addressing abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence. We also combat child labor, child marriage, family separation crises, female genital mutilation and gender-based violence. Collaborating with government agencies, we facilitate early intervention, case management and direct interventions where necessary.
